(ERVING, MA) — The Erving Selectboard has made its decision on a new police chief. Acting Chief Robert Holst is the pick, and will take over in April, pending successful contract negotiations. Selectboard member William Bembury said Holst has done a fine job leading the department over the last six months.

“He has led with integrity, strength, and compassion,” said Bembury. “He has earned the respect of his peers and of the Board of Selectmen. Sergeant Holst has grown, and there is room for growth.”

Selectboard Chair Jacob Smith said Holst seemed to be in lockstep with the town’s values during the interview process.

“There were some very clearly developed responses that left no doubt in my mind where Sergeant Holst would take our department under his leadership.”

The other finalist was Greenfield Police Sergeant David Rice.
