(Sunderland, MA) — A group of Sunderland residents have mobilized in an effort to save an historic tree. An ongoing reconstruction project on Route 47 is set to go right near a 400-year-old sycamore known as the “Buttonball Tree.” It’s currently a popular local attraction which supporters say is a piece of town history which needs to be preserved. Town Administrator Geoff Kravitz says there are no plans to cut down or disturb the tree, despite rumors to the contrary.
