(undated) — Federal officials say scammers have apparently begun to target individuals who have applied for a new program which offers reimbursements for COVID-related funeral expenses. The new program went into effect earlier this spring, and allows families to receive up to $9,000 to cover certain burial costs. Federal officials say some applicants have been contacted by people asking for financial information related to the program, which is apparently not a part of the application process. Anyone who receives such a call should give no information over the phone, and contact police immediately.
