(undated) — If you have old or unwanted prescription drugs laying around, this is the day to get rid of them. The 20th annual “National Prescription Take Back Day” is Saturday, and a number of Franklin and Hampshire County police departments will be hosting drop off locations to allow people to dispose of unused drugs, which will be accepted with no questions asked. Northwestern DA Dave Sullivan says the drug take back is part of a larger effort to get potentially addictive prescriptions away from people who might otherwise use, or possibly, abuse them, which could trigger the use of other addictive substances like heroin. The collection sites will be open from 10 to 2 Saturday at police departments in Deerfield, Greenfield, Leverett, Montague and Sunderland in Franklin County.
