The Athol Board of Health recently confirmed two cases of Covid-19 in the town. Any person who has had exposure to the persons diagnosed with Covid-19 will be contacted by a public health nurse. The health department only receives information for confirmed cases of Covid-19, but is aware of many people in isolation awaiting test results.

“Our best defense is to stay home whenever possible, practice good hygiene by washing hands frequently and covering coughs or sneezes and by following social distancing guidelines when you need to be out,” said Town Manager Shaun A. Suhoski.

Deborah Vondal, Health Agent, gave some guidance for residents to avoid contracting Covid-19. She recommends following public health advice about washing hands, covering coughs and sneezes, staying at home if you are sick, remaining six feet apart from others when you do go out in public, avoiding crowds outside, not shaking hands or hugging, and staying connected to friends and loved ones through phone or other technology.

“We ask our citizens to be vigilant in your own actions and to focus on what you can do to help mitigate the spread of this virus during these unprecedented times,” said Vondal.
