(Chicopee, MA) — The case of the 1972 murder of a Hampden County altar boy is now officially closed. Hampden County District Attorney Anthony Gulluni has announced that he is closing the investigation of the murder of then 13-year-old Danny Croteau–in part, because of the death of the primary suspect in the case, Father Richard Lavigne, who passed away on Friday. Lavigne, who once served as a priest in Franklin County, was facing arrest at the time of his death. Gulluni said new evidence in the case seemed to point to Lavigne’s guilt.
