(Deerfield, MA) — Dollar General’s efforts to build a new store on Routes 5 and 10 in Deerfield have spurred creation of a proposed new zoning bylaw. Deerfield Annual Town Meeting voters a week from Saturday will be asked to approve a new bylaw which would require chain stores to consider “rural character” as part of their site plan design process. The new bylaw is intended to give town officials another tool to ensure that new development in Deerfield is consistent with the community’s standards. Not everyone is in support of the new proposal, which is expected to generate a lengthy debate at the June 12 meeting, which gets underway at nine am at Frontier Regional School.
