(Shutesbury, MA) — A pair of water wells in the town of Shutesbury have been determined to have high levels of a chemical component. The Shutesbury Board of Health sent out an alert late last week warning of the presence of the chemical in wells near the town’s fire station and near the intersection of Locks Pond and Wendell roads. The state discovered the chemical during recent routine testing, with more tests expected. For now, it is recommended that pregnant women and people with compromised immune systems not consume water from those wells until further notice.
