Like many hospitals, Heywood Health has cancelled all elective surgeries. Only urgent or emergent surgeries are allowed at this time. Long term oncology patients are being rescheduled on a case by case basis. Many patients are either denied visitors or allowed one healthy, consistent support person during their stay at the hospital. Find the complete list of restrictions here.
An elective surgery is a surgery that can be scheduled in advance, and is not necessarily limited to an optional surgery. Examples of elective surgeries include removal of kidney stones or removal of a mole or wart. Emergency or urgent surgeries are surgeries that take place because of an urgent medical condition. Acute appendicitis and trauma are examples of emergency or urgent surgeries. For a break down on what is elective surgery and what is emergency surgery, click here.
Heywood Health recommends alternative ways to keep in touch with hospitalized loved ones during this difficult time, including use of technology, FaceTime video chat, or gift delivery. For a list of recommendations click here.
