(Greenfield, MA) — Greenfield’s water is safe to drink. That was the message from city officials Thursday, who briefed the public on the status of a series of recent water main breaks in the city during the recent bouts of heavy rain. DPW Director Marlo Warner said the water main breaks were triggered in part by when the Rocky Mountain water tank was taken off-line after the water there tested positive for a harmless type of bacteria. Further testing revealed that the water is, in fact, safe for public consumption, but the Rocky Mountain tank remains offline and is slated to be refilled next week.
