(Amherst, MA) — A popular Amherst swimming area has reopened just in time for the heat wave. The north and south beaches of Puffer’s Pond have reopened for swimmers after being closed since July because of elevated bacteria levels caused by the heavy July rains. The town is reminding swimmers that there are no lifeguards on duty at the pond, and swimming is at one’s own risk.
