(Greenfield, MA) — The era of “extended learning” in the Greenfield public schools appears to be at an end. Interim School Superintendent Judith Houle says waning interest in the program among families and faculty members have led to the decision not to continue to pursue state grants to fund the ELT program.
“There’s not a whole lot of interest, on the family side or the teachers side, to continue on with the program, particularly at the middle school level,” Houle said.
Greenfield is one of only a small number of schools statewide to be awarded grant funding which added an additional 90 minutes to the day at the Greenfield Middle and Newton Street school buildings. Houle says the district has the option of reapplying for the ELT grants should it choose to in the future.
