(Franklin County, MA) –Tropical Storm Henri is expected to reach hurricane status by Saturday morning, according to the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration, or NOAA. As of Friday afternoon, coastal Massachusetts was the only part of the state with storm-related warnings or watches as Henri remained some 800 miles south of New England.

According to NOAA, a hurricane watch and storm surge watch are in effect for portions of Long Island, NY up to Sagamore Beach, the islands of Nantucket, Martha’s Vineyard in Massachusetts, and Block Island in Rhode Island.

A tropical storm watch is in effect for West Fire Island Inlet to East Rockaway Inlet New York, West Port Jefferson Harbor New York, and West of New Haven Connecticut.

According to NOAA, Henri will approach the coast of New England on Sunday and Monday and will impact Southern New England and Long Island.
