(undated) — More than 7 million Americans are losing their federal unemployment benefits this week. The extended federal benefits offered during the COVID 19 pandemic expired as of Monday. Individual states have the option of extending benefits, but Massachusetts has so far refused to do so. Those receiving state benefits in Massachusetts are also required to now provide proof of ongoing job search efforts in order to maintain benefits. State officials estimate that there are over 200,000 jobs which are currently going unfilled in Massachusetts because of a lack of workers.
