(Amherst, MA) — Amherst property owners could experience some tax bill “sticker shock” in the coming year. Preliminary estimates from the town’s Board of Assessor’s indicate that some Amherst property tax bills could increase by as much as $400 dollars starting next year. The Amherst Town Council must decide whether to maintain a “factor of one” tax rate, or approve a split rate which charges businesses more while lowering the burden on residential taxpayers.
