(Northampton, MA) — The city of Northampton is making a bid to buy a vacant church property. The city’s planning department has announced that Northampton will buy the St. John’s Cantius Church property for $550,000 dollars. The church is slated to be torn down, but the city has expressed interest in using the site for a new Community Resilience Hub resource center. Any purchase must be approved by the city council. The property is currently owned by O’Connell Development, which estimates that it will cost a million dollars to restore and reuse the building.
