(Leyden, MA) — Leyden’s embattled police chief has retired. Long-time Chief Dan Galvis notified the town that he would retire effective at noon yesterday. Galvis had come under attack recently for his decision not to reappoint a popular female sergeant and for perceived insensitive comments made during a series of emails sent to department members and town officials. Galvis had been slated to retire in June. The Leyden Selectboard is expected to accept Galvis’ retirement letter at its next meeting Monday.
