(Deerfield, MA) — The decision to remove a series of granite curb islands from the center of Routes 5 and 10 in Deerfield has proven to be a costly one. The MassDOT says the cost of removing the curbs added an additional $110,000 dollars to the overall cost of the road renovation, which concludes this week with a final paving operation. The islands were removed when it became apparent they would impede traffic flow for emergency and farm vehicles.
