(undated) – It may soon be a felony to try to outrun police on Massachusetts roads. The Legislature is preparing to open debate on a bill filed by Easthampton State Rep. Dan Carey which would make fleeing from the police in a vehicle in a reckless or negligent manner a felony punishable by up to five years in prison and a fine of up to $2,500. The current law only allows a misdemeanor punishable by a $100 fine. Supporters say passage of the bill will close a “legal loophole” in the current law.
