(Athol, MA) – A diesel tanker truck rolled over in Athol early Wednesday morning, spilling some 6,000 gallons of fuel oil into the Mill Brook and Millers River. The Orange Fire Department says the spill happened in the pre-dawn hours, and is now the subject of a massive cleanup involving state and federal officials, local fire departments and Environmental Services Inc. in South Windsor Connecticut. There is no threat to the public, but specialized trucks are expected to be on the scene for several days collecting the spilled fuel and monitoring any potential health impacts.
