(Northampton, MA) – The Northampton City Council has a new president. Council Vice President James Nash edged out Rachel Maiore 5-4 and will serve as council president for the next two years. Nash replaces Gina-Louise Sciarra, the former at-large councilor and president who was sworn in as the city’s 45th mayor hours earlier in a ceremony at the Northampton Academy of Music. Ward Two Councilor Karen Foster was elected vice president.
