(Greenfield, MA) The Greenfield Department of Public Works is reporting a water main break on Spruce Street that is impacting approximately 15 homes. Residents in that area lost water due to the break but it is being repaired by DPW so that water can be restored. Marlo Warner, Director of Public Works in Greenfield, said the call for the break came in around 5:40am, and crews went right out to fix it. The break is in a 1948 cast iron pipe, which Warner said is pretty old. He also said it is common to have a water main break in the winter with the freeze/thaw cycles, but he hopes the break will be repaired soon. At 10:30am, crews are just now getting to the break and will determine what kind of break is impacting the water system.
