That is what some are saying in Northampton where Mayor Gina-Louise Sciarra proposed updating the current cameras at a January city council meeting. A local group called Northampton Abolition Now has said the proposed software can be accessed by federal agencies and will criminalize and incarcerate community members. Northampton Abolition Now has previously called for the defunding of the Northampton Police Department. The mayor plans on bring up the topic of updating the police cruiser cameras at the city council meeting on Thursday.
