Staff Report

(Athol, MA) In Monday’s town election, residents of Athol voted to purchase a new fire engine for their fire department. Athol Fire Chief Joseph Guarnera explained the importance of purchasing a new fire engine pumper as two out of its three pumpers are often out of commission for expensive repairs and the cost to replace them is growing every year.

The Athol Fire Department is busy in the area. Last year they received “3,000 calls with only four members per shift” making adequate equipment of the utmost importance. “I would not be doing my due diligence if I did not make this request behalf of the department, for the safety of my firefighters and the safety of Athol residents and those in surrounding communities,” said Chief Guarnera.

Turnout of 7770 registered voters, 5% turnout for the population of Athol.
