Staff Report
(Franklin County, MA) A pledge to not seek reelection has led to a new agreement between the Hawlemont School District and the Mohawk Trail Regional School District. According to representatives of both district school committees, the five Hawlemont School Committee members have agreed to either resign or not run for reelection in the next Charlemont and Hawley town elections which will be coming up next month. In return, Mohawk will continue its existing agreement with the Hawlemont District with some minor changes. Hawlemont was in danger of losing district services as its current contract was ending this June. The current Hawlemont School Committee was under recent criticism by staff members and citizens for the way it conducted its relationship with Mohawk.
