(Greenfield, MA) Greenfield DPW has set tentative dates for the annual spring hydrant flushing for the week of May 2nd through Friday May 6th, from 7 am to 3 pm. The DPW will be working through town from north to south beginning with Barton Road and ending on Temple Avenue.
Hydrant flushing is done to ensure high water quality by removing sediment that comes from rusty pipes or water main breaks and also to check each hydrant for proper function in order to make any necessary repairs before an emergency occurs. Residents may notice discolored tap water, so be sure to run water until it is clear before drinking or washing with it.
