(Greenfield, MA) *Update* The Greenfield Police Department has provided an update on Thursday’s shooting in Energy Park.

The police received a report of three gunshots and suspects running from the park at 4 p.m. Thursday. Officers went to check the area while dispatchers reported video surveillance that showed a male shooting a firearm at a large group of people on the stage. One person was left with a minor injury. The shooter was in a group of people that fled the area through the staircase to Bank Row.

Officer Cooley searched the surrounding area and on Mill Street he found and arrested Gabe Adams, 19 years old, of Davis Street in Greenfield. Video surveillance showed that Adams was missing several personal items upon his arrest. Greenfield Police’s K9 Niko and his handler Officer Merrigan, along with a Massachusetts State Police K9, discovered some of the personal items that were missing from the suspect. The K9 units were essential to finding items that the officers could not locate in the undergrowth.

Massachusetts State Police Detective Josh Lemay, the Ballistic Unit, Crime Scene Services, and the Photography Unit together with Greenfield Police’s Lieutenant McCarthy and Detective Corey Greene processed the scene, including locating ballistic evidence, while Energy Park was closed Thursday.

The other three suspects were located overnight and interviewed by Greenfield Police Detectives.

Friday morning, Acting Chief Gordon and Detective Supervisor Christopher Greene, led a search in the area of Energy Park and Mill Street and located further ballistic evidence and the firearm suspected to have been used in the shooting. The search was assisted by Massachusetts State Police Detective Supervisor Gary Darling and troopers from the Special Emergency Response Team, K9 Niko and Officer Merrigan, Montague Police’s K9 Artie and his handler officer Ruddock, Metal Detection expert and Gill Police Chief Chris Redmond.

Adams is being held at the Franklin County House of Correction until his arraignment and is being charged with:

  • Assault with a dangerous weapon
  • Assault and battery with a firearm
  • Assault and battery attempt with firearm
  • Three counts of a firearm discharged within 500 feet of a building
  • Firearm carry without a license
  • Attempt to commit murder
  • and disorderly conduct

During the investigation, the Greenfield Police Department required the assistance of former Greenfield Police Officer now State Trooper Shannon Guilbault and the Deerfield Police Department to respond to emergency calls. The department also called in their night shift early to take over coverage.

*Update* The three suspects have been identified.

An arrest has been made in the shooting that took place this afternoon at Energy Park in Greenfield during the Coop Concert series.

Thursday around 4 p.m. the Greenfield Police Department received reports of a shooting in the area of Energy Park at 50 Miles Street in Greenfield. Four individuals were walking in the park when one “pulled out a sidearm and shot in the direction of a group of people on the stage” according to the police department’s statement. One person did receive a minor injury.

The shooting took place during the Coop Concert series, a summer concert series in the park that takes place in Thursday from 6 to 8 p.m. The police department closed the park for the night and canceled this evening’s performances due to the ongoing investigation.

The police did arrest the alleged shooter, but they are still looking for the other three suspects he was with. The Greenfield Police Department has posted photos of the suspects on their Facebook page and is asking the public to email Christopher.greene@greenfield-ma.gov if they have any information about the identities of the suspects.
