(Greenfield, MA) National Farmers’ Market Week is held the week of August 7th through the 13th. Greenfield Mayor Wedegartner presented the Greenfield Farmers’ Market with a proclamation to celebrate the occasion Tuesday. In Franklin County there are many farmers’ markets working to strengthen the connection between residents and local farms.

There are local programs supporting participation in farmers’ markets including coupons for eligible seniors and WIC participants, and nationally, SNAP-Ed allows SNAP participants to use their funds to purchase food at farmers’ markets through the HIP program.

The Greenfield Senior Center will be distributing coupons for seniors age 60 and older from any city or town who meet income requirements (one person household monthly income $2,096; two-person household monthly income $2,823) on Friday, August 12th from 9:30 to 11:30 a.m. Active WIC participants can call their local WIC office ((978)544-8093 for Orange and (413)376-1160 for Greenfield) to reserve coupons that will be available for pick up at the Orange Farmers’ Market on Thursday, August 11th from 3 to 5:30 pm or at the Greenfield Farmers’ Market on Saturday, August 13th from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m.
