(Greenfield, MA) In the past week, the Greenfield Planning Board and the Economic Development Committee discussed the potential zoning amendment for the French King Highway from General Commercial to Planning Industry.
In August Mayor Wedegartner announced her plans to propose rezoning the 11 parcels east of King Road and north of the French King Highway back in August. The Mayor said the existing industrial park is running out of space, limiting both current businesses’ ability to expand and new growth.
“We are running out of land in the industrial park,” said Mayor Wedegartner. “It’s my hope that rezoning these parcels will serve as a catalyst for job creation and economic development.”
“There is a documented lack of industrial park space in Franklin County,” said Director of Planning and Development Eric Twarog. “Rezoning this area to Planned Industry will help to meet that demand and promote growth.”
The Planning Board voted to proceed with the zoning amendment and the next steps will include a public hearing and a city council vote on the matter.
