(Montague, MA) Montague will hold a special town meeting on October 13th at the Turners Falls High School Theater at 6:30 p.m. to vote on several motions.
Articles 1, 2, 3, 5, 6, and 7 pertain to wage increases applying in part to the police department, public works, and elected officials. The town will also vote on funding the budget to accommodate for increased electricity rates, including a 78% increase in electrical supply rate after the town signed a new three year contract with the lowest bid from six potential electricity suppliers.
Hillcrest flooring project also requires $56,000 in additional funding as the project did not initially anticipate needing to remove and replace subfloor as part of the project to “remediate and abate” asbestos containing floor tile. The additional funding would cover the cost of the subfloor overage and carpeting expenses.
The Town will be voting on the creation of an Opioid Settlement Stabilization Fund to separate the funds received by the town from the opioid settlement from the general fund so that these funds can be directed to specific projects and programs like treatment, harm reduction, increasing access to care.
The full agenda for the special town meeting can be found at the Town of Montague website.
