(Greenfield, MA) Greenfield City Council voted Wednesday to approve $500,000 in borrowing to fund the new fire station’s furnishings and equipment. Although some councilors  were concerned about the borrowing, finance director Liz Gilman said this was the best way forward.

Vice President Dan Guin said “We are in the home stretch” for this project and approving the borrowing now would not eliminate the possibility of rescinding it in the future if other funding becomes available, just as the council had rescinded borrowing for the library project that evening and will be doing again as the City has received another $500,000 from the library foundation for the project.

Approving the $500,000 allows the fire station project to move forward with the process of bidding and obtaining furniture and equipment that have lengthy timelines and/or limited availability.
