(Greenfield, MA) The Greenfield Police Department’s new comfort dog, Officer Frankie, was sworn in on Friday and reported for duty yesterday. He, and his handler, Officer Llewelyn, visited unsheltered people in preparation of the coming winter weather and expected snowfall this week.

The Greenfield Police Department welcomed a new comfort dog, K9 Officer Frankie Roche Jr. The 8 week-old chocolate lab was a donation to the department from Boonefield Labradors. His name is a tribute to the late Greenfield Detective Frank Roche Jr. who served the department from 1974 to his unexpected passing in 1998 and was the department’s first community policing officer. Frankie will be working with Officer Llewelyn, the current Community Resource Officer, to work with the department clinician in defusing behavioral health crises.
