(Deerfield, MA) Reports came in around noon on Sunday from a resident of Upper Road in Deerfield who noticed heavy smoke and flames coming from a neighbor’s yard. Deerfield firefighters who live nearby were able to respond to the scene quickly, stopping the brush fire from spreading further.
Greenfield and South Deerfield Fire Departments provided mutual aid on scene. No injuries have been reported.
The Deerfield Fire District’s report of the incident included a safety reminder:
“As a reminder please make sure all ashes and coals from any heat source, fire pit, etc are completely extinguished before dumping. The home owner dumped what they believed to be extinguished coals on Thursday of last week and they were able to ignite this fire today.”
