(Bernardston, MA) 4th Update: The State Fire Marshal’s Office has determined that Monday’s fire on Turners Falls Road in Bernardston was likely caused by a wood stove above the ceiling. Home heating equipment is a leading cause of house fires and with extreme cold temperatures on the way, it is recommended that residents use extra caution with their heat sources. Fires should be extinguished before going to bed or leaving the house, ashes should be disposed of properly, and regular maintenance and inspections will help reduce fire hazards.

3rd Update: A GoFundMe has been created for the family whose home was deemed a “total loss” after Monday’s fire. The daughter of Bob and Linda Raymond, Jennifer Glazier, started the fundraiser Tuesday and has raised over $6,000. In addition to the GoFundMe, United Church of Bernardston is also accepting checks for the family which may be mailed to United Church of Bernardston PO Box 503 Bernardston, MA 01337 Attention: Raymond Family.

2nd Update: The Bernardston Fire Department was dispatched to 178 Turners Falls Road for a structure fire at 5:30 p.m. When the first unit arrived on scene they found heavy fire which prompted a second alarm. After hours of work to bring down the fire, the home was deemed a “total loss.” The State Fire Marshal’s Office is investigating the cause of the fire.

Update: Monday evening a two-alarm fire was reported at a Bernardston home on Turners Falls Road. The home belonged to former town select man Bob Raymond and his wife, Linda, who were not home at the time of the fire. Multiple area fire departments were called in when the second alarm was struck for mutual aid including Northfield, Turners Falls, Greenfield, Erving, and others. The cause of the fire is suspected to be related to the wood stove.

A second alarm has been struck for a structure fire near the intersection of Route 10 and Turners Falls Road in Bernardston. The fire broke out around 5:45 p.m. and multiple mutual aid agencies have responded in addition to Bernardston Fire Department.
