(Greenfield, MA) The City of Greenfield has lifted its State of Water Supply Conservation as of Wednesday afternoon. The State of Water Supply Conservation was declared last July during a region-wide drought and the dredging of the Leyden Glen Reservoir.

Since then the mandatory restrictions were lifted in November and now the water system has returned to normal operating status as the Leyden Glen Reservoir has refilled to sufficient levels to be drawn from. According to the City of Greenfield the Millbrook Wellfield and Green River Pumping Station are also operating normally.

“Though we’re technically still in a mild drought, the City’s water resources have recovered and we’re comfortable lifting the State of Water Supply Conservation,” said Department of Public Works Director Marlo Warner. “We want to thank residents and businesses that helped conserve this finite resource, and even though the water supply has returned to normal operations, it’s always a good idea to conserve.”

The Massachusetts Drought Management Task Force offers water conservation tips including minimizing lawn watering, addressing leaks, and harvesting rainwater for outdoor water. The Greenfield Department of Public Works sells rain barrels out of their office located at 189 Wells Street for a discounted price of $79.
