(Greenfield, MA) The City of Greenfield is looking into a new parking management system for the Olive Street Parking Garage. The city has issued a request for proposals for an access system that would use license plate recognition to manage parking tickets and eliminate the need for a barrier gate arm.

This comes after residents have voiced concerns over the barrier gate arm malfunctioning on multiple occasions causing users to be stuck inside the garage until someone could come to assist.

With the plate recognition system physical tickets would be eliminated and parking would be payable by debit or credit card, mobile app, a prepaid monthly pass, or by invoice.

“This is an upgrade that will improve the experience for residents, visitors and passholders and streamline the City’s parking management system,” said Mayor Roxann Wedegartner. “Frankly, the current barrier gate system has been plagued by problems and securing replacement parts has been a challenge. This improvement will create a completely automated system that will better serve our community.”
