(Greenfield, MA) At Wednesday’s Greenfield School Committee meeting the committee voted unanimously to amend their policy to allow homeschool students to play sports with Greenfield schools again.
The Greenfield Public School community including students, Coach Kuchieski, and parents showed strong support for including homeschoolers in the sports program in the public comment portion of the evening.
The committee discussed the policy change and the circumstances in which it was put into place for instance, the pandemic raised concerns around having people in the building who were not attending classes.
However, the benefits of including homeschooled students seemed to outweigh the drawbacks as the committee voted on an “emergency basis”, expediting the process to re-allow homeschoolers to play.

03/08/23 The Greenfield School Committee recently voted to discontinue the practice of allowing homeschooled students to play sports through Greenfield Public Schools.
At the last school committee meeting, residents including coaches, parents, and students spoke of the impact this will have on teams and students. One resident spoke about her son being unable to return to the baseball team saying “he has been put through stress because of this, he feels as if he has let his team down.”
The homeschool policy is on the agenda for today’s school committee meeting at 6 p.m. at the John Zon Community Center at 35 Pleasant Street in Greenfield.
