(Greenfield, MA) New details have been released regarding the head-on collision that occurred Sunday afternoon on Route 2 in Greenfield.

According to the Northwestern District Attorney’s Office, Javery A. Hattat, 32 years old from Bennington, Vermont, was arraigned in Greenfield District Court Monday morning and pleaded not guilty to four counts of negligent operation of a motor vehicle while under the influence of drugs resulting in serious bodily injury; four counts of reckless assault and battery with a dangerous weapon; negligent operation of a motor vehicle; possession of a class B substance (cocaine); and failure to stay within marked lanes.

According to witnesses, Hattat was seen crossing into oncoming traffic on Route 2 when he collided with the vehicle occupied by two parents and two children from Rhode Island. The parents were transported by medical helicopter to Baystate Medical Center in Springfield, while the children were transported by ambulance.

Greenfield Police, State Police detectives working out of the Northwestern District Attorney’s Office and State Troopers with the Collision Analysis and Reconstruction Section (CARS) and Crime Scene Services Section responded to the scene, as did emergency responders from Greenfield Fire/EMS. The crash remains under investigation.

Judge William Mazanec set Hattat’s bail at $10,000 and with the condition that they not drive. Hattat is set to have a pretrial conference on May 9th.

03/13/23 At around 3:30 p.m. Sunday afternoon a head-on collision occurred on the Mohawk Trail in the area of Long View Tower leaving at least four individuals severely injured.

Once on scene, Greenfield Fire Chief Robert Strahan declared a mass casual incident, bringing more ambulances and helicopters to the scene to assist. All four occupants of the black Nissan, including two minors were transported to Baystate Medical Center in Springfield, two by helicopter.

The sole occupant of the black Toyota Tacoma was brought to Baystate Franklin Medical Center. Route 2 was shutdown for several hours while emergency responders dealt with the accident.

Four members of the Hawley Volunteer Fire Department were driving in the area when they came upon the scene of the accident and assisted with first aid, extraction, and traffic control.

Greenfield, Northfield, Colrain, South County EMS, Turners Falls, Northampton and AMR of Springfield all provided assistance with ambulances. Life Star provided aid in transporting two to Springfield. Greenfield Fire, Greenfield Police, Massachusetts State Police, all responded to the scene and MassDOT assisted with the road closure.

03/12/23 A multi-vehicle crash on Route 2 just west of Home Depot in Greenfield has occurred Sunday afternoon. The Greenfield Police Department have announced that the section of Route 2, or the Mohawk Trail, is closed from Home Depot to the Greenfield City Line and is expected to remain closed for several hours while emergency responders attend to the incident.
