(Ashfield, MA) A citizens’ petition to ban single-use plastic will be voted on at Ashfield’s Annual Town Meeting in May. The petition was submitted by Ashfield resident Ron Coler of Bailey Road and received 60 signatures from fellow Ashfield residents.

The ban would prohibit non-compliant food service ware to be sold within the town, this includes plastic straws, plastic cutlery, single-use plastic bags and products made of polystyrene foam. The ban would be enforced with fines beginning at the second infraction, after a warning, with a $100 fine.

More information on the ban will be available at an informational meeting at Ashfield Town Hall on April 19th at 7 p.m where Coler will present information and field questions on this petition, and a petition to for an excessive noise bylaw.
