(Ashfield, MA) An Ashfield family had been keeping warm during the power outage with a fire in their fireplace. The fire spread beyond the fireplace into the wall behind it.

Ashfield firefighters were called to a home on Emmet Road Wednesday morning around 10:45 a.m. with reports of smoke coming from the walls of the home. Fire Chief Walker brought in Conway Fire to assist immediately when the call was received to help with the unknown severity of fire.

Upon arrival, crews found smokes coming from the baseboard around an old fireplace. Firefighters had to dismantle the wall to find and put out the fire. The 1800s home will need some work, but the damage was contained to a small area around the fireplace.

In addition to Conway Fire providing mutual aid, Plainfield, Conway, Goshen, South Deerfield, Buckland, and Williamsburg Fire Departments along with Highland Ambulance and Ashfield Police all assisted in managing the incident.
