(Boston, MA)  —  Wednesday was Massachusetts’ deadliest 24-hour period since the coronavirus outbreak. The state Department of Public Health reported 221 new COVID 19 deaths on April 22, the largest one-day number since the advent of the pandemic. A total of 2.182 people have died from the virus. An additional 1,745 cases were reported Wednesday, bringing the statewide number to 42,944.
