(Greenfield, MA) Mayor Wedegartner and FInance Director Diana Schindler presented the proposed budget for Fiscal Year 2024 to the City Council Ways and Means Subcommittee Wednesday. At the meeting, Schindler presented budget numbers that were revised and City Councilors expressed concern with the lack of notice.
In the wake of the $1.5 million cut to the School Committee’s recommended budget, Schindler and Mayor Wedegartner also presented new information on city services to the schools that goes beyond the official school budget to show that the Total education spending out of the City’s budget in the current year is $36.7 million or 61.4% of the budget when costs like employee benefits, DPW services, utilities, and others are taken into consideration.
