(Greenfield, MA) The Greenfield City Council reconvened Thursday evening to continue their work on the FY24 operating budget. After much spirited debate over the course of two evenings, the council amended down numerous budget items across the municipality and used the differences to add to the Greenfield school budget, which if voted on as the Mayor proposed, would have left the schools with $1.5 million less than was requested by the superintendent. The council unanimously voted to add $1,175,594 to the Greenfield School budget, but several councilors noted that the work is not done here as the schools will need more support in the state and federal levels in the future.
