(GREENFIELD) –The Greenfield City Council has approved over $330,000 in cuts to Mayor Roxann Wedegartner’s proposed budget for Fiscal Year ’24, and is set to resume debate tonight. At last night’s meeting, the Council cut $212,500 from the police, $50,214 from Economic Development, and $40,000 from legal services, representing the largest cuts so far. There was strong debate among council members over the cuts, against the backdrop of the much-publicized community outcry over budget cuts last year.

The Council will resume budget debate tonight, and is seeking an additional $825,000 in suggested cuts. The School Department budget has been moved to the end of tonight’s agenda.

Tonight’s resumption of the Council meeting is at 6:30 p.m. at the John Zon Community Center. The meeting can also be accessed via Zoom: https://greenfield-ma gov.zoom.us/j/93909109210?pwd=VTBNczVhemFnZkNWTmxUWUxDUWdWdz09
