(Greenfield, MA) On Monday, the Massachusetts Supreme Judicial Court upheld the conviction of Greenfield’s Dennis Bateman on two counts of first-degree murder and one count of armed robbery. In 2005, a 21 year old pregnant employee at the Sunoco gas station on Routes 5 and 10 in Deerfield was strangled to death. Bateman DNA was found at the scene and under the woman’s finger nails and he was found guilty two years later. The appeal made by Bateman’s lawyer claimed the trial held many errors, however the Supreme Judicial Court denied the appeal for a new trial or reduction of verdicts.
