(Greenfield, MA) The Greenfield Police Department has welcomed a new member, 18 month old bloodhound K9 officer Ellie May. Ellie-May was donated by a family in Maine who knew she was highly driven and needed more than they could offer. Officer Marcus Johansson, a patrol officer who has been with the department for two years, will be her handler at the department and they have begun training and working together on the midnight shift. Bloodhounds have an extremely keen sense of smell, forming what is called a “odor image” when they sniff an article allowing them to follow the trail.
