(Erving, MA) Erving residents may notice the taste or smell of chlorine in their water as the town begins a chlorination process to clear bacteria that was found during a routine water sampling on August 2nd and again in a re-sampling on Friday, August 4th. Following the bacterial hit, the town notified the Massachusetts Department of Environmental Protection. Hot summer weather can create an environment favorable to bacterial growth in water tanks and is a normal occurrence. The town will discontinue the chlorination process once the bacteria levels are down. Residents may contact the Erving Water Department with any questions or concerns.
