(Boston, MA) The Healey-Driscoll Administration announced an expansion of their electric vehicle rebate program., MOR-EV. Currently, the $3,500 rebates will continue to be issued, now with the option at participating dealers to receive the rebate at the point-of-sale. There will also be $1,500 rebate adder for income-qualifying residents and increased rebates for certain electric pick-up trucks. The rebates will be issued retroactively to November 10th, 2022. The rebate program began in 2014 and has issued nearly $72 million in rebates for the purchase of over 32,000 electric vehicles as of June, 2023.
Anna Vanderspek, the Electric Vehicle Program Director of the Green Energy Consumers Alliance said, “The MOR-EV program has been one of the Commonwealth’s strongest tools to help accelerate the adoption of electric cars in Massachusetts. We are thrilled to see these three new changes that will make electric vehicles more affordable to more people. Many drivers in Massachusetts never buy new cars, can’t afford to pay $3,500 upfront only to be reimbursed later, or need a higher incentive to be able to make the switch. These changes will make it possible for more people, particularly low- and moderate-income drivers, to make the switch and benefit from electric cars’ lower fuel costs, reduced maintenance costs, and lack of air pollution.”
