(Deerfield, MA) Lower Road in Deerfield has reopened this week with completion of the washout repairs. In July, the severe rainstorms and flooding washed out multiple roads in Deerfield and across the county in what’s being called a 500-year event. During one of the storms, a portion of Lower Road washed out while a vehicle was on it, dropping the vehicle and occupant fifteen feet down into water. Deerfield Fire’s Assistant Chief Ben Clark had been behind the vehicle and was able to extricate the occupant from the car and fast flowing water.
