(New Salem, MA) New Salem’s Swift River School has been using bottled water for two years as it deals with chemicals in the water system and the Massachusetts DEP has declared a water emergency for the school. The school is in the process of having a PFAS filtration system put in place after tap water testing in 2020 and 2021 revealed high levels of PFAS contaminants. In April, the Healey-Driscoll administration announced a $100,000 grant for the school for the PFAS treatment system in April and the school is now working to get the system operational.
